About the Festival

Every year, over the height of the summer festivities, the Hobart waterfront puts on a show to remember: the Taste Festival.

Hundreds of thousands of foodies come together on Hobart’s waterfront for seven days and nights of eating, drinking and entertainment.

The majestic River Derwent and Hobart’s historic wharves and Salamanca precinct provide the backdrop to this feast of the senses, where the spotlight shines on fresh Tasmanian produce. Think Tasmanian seafood, cheese, berries, wines and boutique beers… and international dishes with a local flavour.

And the 23rd Taste Festival is set to be the biggest and brightest yet!

Princes Wharf Shed No. 1, the Taste’s long-time Princes Wharf venue, has had a makeover, with almost 700 extra seats and decking spilling out onto the waterfront and Salamanca Place – taking in the iconic Salamanca Lawns for the first time – adding to the atmosphere of summer celebration.

It’s a year for firsts, with the 2011/12 Taste featuring a brand new experience – The Winery – dedicated to the pleasures of fine Tassie wines matched with local delicacies. And, for the first time, Salamanca’s restaurateurs have been invited to feature a daily Sullivan’s Cove Taste Plate on their menu. Another exciting first is the introduction of reserved seating.

Returning to the menu are the Red Hat Tours, an expanded Brasserie and the popular Taste Theatre. Other highlights include Kids in the Park and, of course, New Year’s Eve.

So, work up an appetite in the fresh sea air, grab a table or spread out your picnic blanket, and dine alfresco as the whole city comes together in one big feast of fun, food and frivolity.

Welcome to our waterfront!
